Earth Hour Awareness 2015

On the 27th of March 2015, Leo Club of SMK Kepong Baru had held a small Earth Hour awareness project in order to raise awareness of Earth Hour among the students of SMK Kepong Baru and also encourage students to do their parts to turn off light for an hour on the official Earth Hour day which is 28th of March. We prepared 400 candles and also small cards to give out to the students. We spread out into 3 groups and standby at the school’s main gate, back gate and also small gate before carry out the project. We gave out the candles and small cards to the students who passed by the gate.

Earth Hour is a project which is held worldwide at the end of March annually, encouraging individuals, communities households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour as a symbol for their commitment to the planet. Therefore, we hope that fellow Leos will participate themselves in this project in order to save the earth and create a sustainable world.

Thanks to our teacher adviser, Pn Lai for supporting us throughout this project. Not to forget, thanks to our Organising Chairperson, Leo Teh Sin Yee for carrying her job well. We would also like to express our gratitude to the Leos who help out throughout this project.

Visitation to Beautiful Gates 2015

On the 24th of January 2015,15 Leos from Leo Club of SMK Kepong Baru had participated in the visit to Beautiful Gates which was organized by Leo Wei Hao. Beautiful Gates is a home for the disabled people and it is located just a stone’s throw from our school so we decided to just walk there. Leo Wei Hao gathered everyone at our school’s canteen before proceeding to Beautiful Gates.

At 9.30 a.m. we left our school and started heading to Beautiful Gates. We were introduced to the president of Beautiful Gates, Mr Kenneth. Leo Wei Hao started dividing us into 4 groups. Each group were assigned with different task. For instance, group 1 members were assigned to clean the toilets and group 2 members were assigned to wipe the windows and fans. Group 3 and group 4 were in-charged of cleaning the compounds of the house. It was sad seeing so many unwanted materials thrown outside of the house until they started releasing unpleasant smell. They used to collect these materials and recycle them but we soon found out that they no longer want to continue doing it.

We stopped all of our work at 12.15 p.m. for lunch break. Leo Wei Hao ordered fried rice for us and also for the residents in Beautiful Gates. Around 1.10 p.m. we had a sharing session with Kenneth. He told us about the history of Beautiful Gates and we found out that it was related with the name of one of the doors in the church. Usually every year we would have the baking session with Lorain but due to her injured wrist we were not able to make it.
We would wish to thank the owner of Beautiful Gates, our teacher advisor, Pn Lai, the Organizing Chairperson, Leo Wei How and the present members of Leo Club of SMK Kepong Baru who have helped make this project a success. Thank You smile emoticon !

School Whiteboard Cleaning

On the 29th of December 2014, 7 Leos from the Leo club of SMK Kepong Baru gathered in school to carry out a whiteboard cleaning project. The 7 Leos gathered in the school canteen by 8.00am and awaited the instruction of the organizing chairperson.

Leo Jarriel Ong Rae-Mien, the organizing chairperson then divided the 7 Leos into groups of 2 to speed up the process of cleaning the whiteboards as there were quite a number of whiteboards and graph boards to be cleaned. Some cloths and thinner was provided to each of the groups and all the groups dispersed to carry out their task at their own respective blocks.

By 12.00pm in the afternoon all the groups had finished their blocked and assembled back at the canteen where fellow Leos had their lunch together. Overall the event was a success as all the whiteboards were able to be cleaned within the given time by our school, this would not have been possible if not for the cooperation of all the members in attendance.
